Sensory Play

We believe the world of lights, sounds and colour is a magical one, full of excitement and wonder. This world can be beautiful and full of amazement. It will help encourage sensory play, imagination and new discoveries. A great way for young children to explore and start their learning.

We hope that by coming to our sessions it will help caregivers think a little outside the box in their play opportunities at home and also learn new skills too.

When Babies are born it takes a number of months for their sight to develop to be able to see the world as we do as adults, typically the right way up, with 3D perspective, colour and textures.

At first babies can only see blurry contrasts, typically in hues of grayscale with hints of red as familiarity from the womb. As these blurry shapes become more defined they remain 2D textureless and upside down.

Eventually over a matter of months the world becomes more colourful, 3D and texturised. To support this natural sensory development it is important to offer high contrast imagery, a combination of 3D and 2D toys and tactile textures during play time. This way sensory development can pair things together to get the bigger picture.

At each stage of sensory development it is a true delight to watch the wonder and amazement on your childs face as something new suddenly becomes real for them.

Our Glow Beans sessions are designed for newborn through to pre walker toddler age and are designed with this sensory development in mind.

Using a dimly lit room and black out areas we will provide a selection of different glowing, reflective and tactile toys and materials for babies to explore.
